Colin Munroe: Piano Lessons

So Colin Munroe has released Unsung Hero Mixtape [Marked Music/Rowdy Records; 2009], as you already know if you keep up with this blog, and on it is this beauty "Piano Lessons" produced by Black Milk. Personally, I loved this song when I heard it on the mixtape because it was so simple. Did you peep the Dr. Seuss's Put Me In a Zoo book? Interesting way to transmit a message.

Mr. Munroe with his sarcastic hook "Don't bet on me, I'm a long shot," I think summarizes the thought in all of our heads when we are forced to do something. But don't forget, "In a million, you might be the one." So, on that note, I am going to attempt at playing my little dusty keyboard, wish me luck! haha!

By the way, Theophilus London put on a wonderful performace last night at Webster's Hall Studio. He definitely jumped into the crowd and onto my head, but it was all LOVE! I am soo anticipating This Charming Mixtape, dropping January 26, 2009.

Winter Avalanches

So here I am pondering on this new found winter wonderland of weather, and my mind happened to wander opun the Australian electronic music group that is The Avalanches.

They have not released an album since November 2000. Kind of leaves me to wonder if they will ever return and bless us with their music again??

Like this is my favortie single they released...Here was a beautiful piece of musical art made entirely from samples of Kid Creole, Madonna, Jimmy Webb, Sergio Mendez, Mandrill, De La Soul and the Osmonds. Enjoy the video.

I love the concept behind their music, for example their last album Since I Left You was sampled from over 3,500 vinyl samples. So my christmas wish to Santa this year:

"Dear Santa, make the Avlanches release another album in 2009, I've been such a good girl"

The Light

Outside looks like a giant 7 Eleven slurpie machine exploded, and all its unflavored contents spilled out into the NYC streets. On occassions like this I retreat to a place I like to call "Lightville."

It is a place once captured in film by the artist Pharoahe Monch, in his video "The Light" (one of my favorite songs by the way) and so I am going to journey there today...will you join me???

Slick With The Word Play

Seriously, this video is mind-boggling. And if you have followed this blog, you know I have a thing for videos that seem to open new ways of perception.

Here at Writer's Block we are all about the words, and making them say more than the alphabet could offer. Peep this video by the Mountain Goats. Pure genius.

My favorite part is when he looks at the camera and says "Yeaahaha!!"

B-R-O OK!!

Brooklyn mos' def' goes hard. They demonstrate their swagger whenever they get the chance. And Jay-Z and Santo demonstrates their swagger in the following video....

Although I definitely enjoyed this video, and it reminded me a little of my homie Salena from Germany, who ain't from Bro-OK! but she got swagger, and creates magic with the swivle of her mouse.

BRo-OK!
