This My JAMMM!!

Nah. For reals. This is my JAM! At least for the spring/summer '09. Mayor Hawthorne
"Just Ain't Gonna Work Out"

This video I think embodies an all too familiar ritual that we as humans are faced to succumb to at some point. Ah wells. Still cute.

And if this song is just to sappy for you, then I am sure that this next hit will be just perfect.
Le Le - Breakfast,

"Holla Holla Holla , Oatmeal and Granola!!!"

Honestly, I'm a little irate they didn't shout of Turkey Bacon, but it's all good because they used drawings made by Piet Parra. Yes...the same dude that designed the shirt for Jay Dilla and his moms.

Aww Sooky Sooky!

Maxwell's "Pretty Wings" must've have been made in dedication to my infamous "quickie naps." This video is so damn simple, but beautiful in what it has. Man I can't even speak, just look for yourself. Take me higher!!!

I think people are just fascinated with naps on a whole. This video is by Oren Lavie called "Her Morning Elegance" takes a different stance, using stop motion techonology.

I blame Starbucks for the worlds fascination with sleep, since now it has become a rarerity. Oh wells, that is why they reported a 70% decrease in sales in their last fiscal year. Take back your sleep people. Take it back NOW!!

****BLCK****

There's this dope project I'm a part of. Its called "BLCK". And If your black, and aspire to be anything worth being...you need to 'be' here.
(I cut and pasted the info, so if it doesn't sound like my writing....you guessed it...Its not. )
RSVP People! And fast! There's probably like 5 seats left.

FRSH Pulp Sponsored Event
BLCK Premier + Panel Discussion
Hosted by I.M.G + Nakeya B. Photography

Learn. Network. Build. Success is a combination of who you know and what you know. Who you know can open the door and what you know keeps you there and can take you beyond. BLCK is about sharing experiences, gaining new insights and networking with each other so we can all take our aspirations to the next level.

The focus of BLCK is to not exclude other races but to celebrate + acknowledge the accomplishments of four young Black men and share in their experiences. There are so many successful men of color changing the game and making a difference; this is a glimpse of four.

TreVZ Producer. Kareem Black Photographer. Anthony Hudson Associate. Anslem Samuel Journalist.

BLCK will be presented in the form of an exhibit, which will consist of photographs + excerpts from interviews, and a moderated discussion that will explore the role of minorities (past, present and future) in media, music, advertising, marketing and business as well as each individuals journey to where they are now + their contribution to their field.

Also being featured in the same space is Nakeya B., "One Woman, Many Men"

A collection of eight black and white portraits of black men as seen through the eyes of a black woman. This specific perspective is one that has been underrepresented since photography's invention. The images explore the notion of trust and how the factors of race and gender influence them. "One Woman, Many Men" also serves as a platform to deconstruct the "White male" exclusivity associated with photography historically.

Seating is VERY limited and priority will be given to those who RSVP and then on a first come, first seat basis.

BLCK
Monday, May 4
Creative Pier Arts Center, 833 Broadway @ 13th Street
Exhibit opens @ 7PM
Discussion begins @ 8:30PM

There is a $10 donation at the door and light refreshments will be served.
To RSVP, send an email to awright@theimgway.com

Passion Pit

I am so in love with this song, and now that I have seen the video I think that it has me in it grips. I have this song set as my ringtone and I have missed several phone calls because I was too busy dancing to pick up the phone in time.

Anyways, this group Passion Pit I heard about through the whole SXSW hooplah, and I gotta say, loves it.

For a free download of the song, click here.

And this video is soo freakin' dynamic.

Oh Spit That...

...how I love thee...let me count the ways.
A long time friend of Writer's Block, KSKforNYC, took these pictures during a Spit That, and I happened to find them on my computer. Didn't want to be greedy, so I am gonna share them with you.

Maybe Crack aint so Wack?

...Cause this dudes on Fire!!!

The 'Gay Crackhead' is such a strange but matrimonial Dynamic....

GEEK TO THE BEAT!

Ight so....whilst "Jloggin" (joggin through blogs), I stumbled across this gem. It's funny how the whole blog thing can sometimes be an Alice in Wonderland experience of sorts. Speaking of which, I must say, I love the Approach and creative execution of this video. Mind you, I dont know this guy, never heard of him but....this was a good Introduction. I will definitely look into more of his music.
My faithful audience I present to you:

****The Rulers Back***

It feels soooo good to be BACK!

I Love New York. So much, that I will share with you, a poem I wrote back in January.

New York

When you see me again,
Let your eyes kiss me soft.
I need you.
to feel me.
with arms that understand where I'm coming from.
keep me safe in your love
let your cold heart preserve me
lay with me
never speak
just breathe to me
soft.
gentle.
Im sensitive.
So.
Sensitive.
Your dead of Winter smile.
nestled under snow flaked eyes,
let them kiss me.
Soft.
And I promise
I will let you like me
till it hurts.
till its true.
till it hurts.
till its true
Love me.
till thick is thin.
Nowhere quite reminds me of you.
so I come back.
they tell me you've grown colder now.
still, I come back.
warm heart in hand.
For you.

(......Sooo much that I will also share a random video clip).

un po 'di stile ladro

...is what Cassie is.
She posted this on twitter saying

"something that will shock your mother, but make her call you a ROCK STAR."

I had déjà vu, of the one and only Miss Jack Davey of J*Davey.

Don't forget the orginal rock star, Miss Marcia Hamilton who originated this hairstyle for Jack, she is celebrity hairstylist extraordinaire who has styled the locks of stars like Will Smith all the way to Brandy.
Peep J*Davey below....

Get Ya Bread Up!!

'Cause Michael Jackson is selling all of his shiieeettt!!!

I gotta start getting my beans together. I have my heart set on copping his Moonwalker Animated Head Prop, I've always wanted to put this joint on for Halloween. It will be like 20 times better than my wanna be Daft Punk costume.

But if your really ballin' you could even buy his American Music Award from 1984 for "Thriller." You won't have to sacrifice a small virgin unicorn to be able to afford it, neither. With prices ranging from $100-$3000 we could all leave with a little piece of magic.

So click here to flip through the catalogue, and start stacking your chips for April 25, 2009. It's like looking through the Toys R' Us catalogues. Only it's a little more creepy.

But lets take it a step further. See there's rules to dis ting, yeh. You have have different kinds of skankin, yeh git me yeh? For now I'm gonna take you through two types of skankin. "Ladies!"

THE MOVEMENTS MOVIN'!

Ight sooo.....

As you know...or probably don't know, your boy RIPMC'izzle has been out in London connecting the dots. And yes, the image is looking a lot clearer now. I am declaring a full on TAKEOVER. Yes. Mark your Calendar because the Writers Block Movement will be taking over UK for a week.
My agenda in going to London was to shop for venues, and to broaden my network/meet people.

Mission. Accomplished.

I must say I've met a lot of new and very cool artistic individuals, and also, I had the opportunity to develop an even better relationship with those that I met on my first Exodus to the UK. Twice Ive had people in the street tell me either "Are you a poet? Yeah, I saw you perform a few months back" and "Writers Block! Writers Block! I thought you went back to NY?!"

Mission. Accomplished.

As for the venue...heheheh. Lets just say I landed us a gig at one of the most prominent venues in the whole of London. Yes folks. We will be holding a Writers Block Event at the world famous:

CARGO

God is good. Peep the specs....

Yeah I know.....

I know.......

Yeah......Yeah. Its Done. Post over.

Writers Block Week Takeover (Sept 16th-22nd).
Writers Block x Cargo London(Sept. 23rd)
Oh and did I mention that the Writers Block Week takeover also falls during London's Fall Fashion Week? Heheheh.
Order your passports.
Get ya money up.

Read A Book! Read A Book!

And that book should be...

My name is Jason. Mine too.

by Jason Reynolds & Jason Griffin.

Yes both of their names are Jason. But one should stand out to you like the curly locks that adorn his head. That one is Jason...Reynolds. Part of Writer's Block Collective, who in this video sites that his hair although different from that of Jason Griffin, is what is the same between them.

I am definitely gonna read this story. His Story. Their Story. You should too. Check their website for more info, and read a story that should be a staple in your mental diet.

Book avaliable on April 21, 2009.

Hmmmmm.....? ok. Kanye+Cudi

Oops! Wrong pic...

Okay, here we go! Kanye + Cudi
+
Common

The industries a funny place. And artist are funny people. This song to me is like when your Pastor, First Elder, or Deacon tries to crack a sexually charged joke that doesn't go over too well. Like, "nice joke but....just sounds quite weird coming from you...". I like the way they flipped the sample though....

Now, let's not get it twisted. I love gettin' head....
(when she knows what she's doin....cause, I'm picky wit mine).
And this is the anthem

Jerkin'

And no I ain't talkin' 'bout chicken. It seems that something has managed to slip past my radar. Whilst I was re-organizing my life a new movement has seemed to happen. It is called Jerking. And as pausatial as that name may sound that is the name of the current pre-pubescent dance movement.

It is like a mixture of hyphy, chicken noodle soup, and some other sheeiit. Peep the video.

The song "Your A Jerk" has mesmerized the innocent blank minds of teenagers all over the US, and has them submitting whit-less YouTube videos of themselves doing the jerk. You can spend hours just looking through them. Trust me, I have.....n't.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

And yes your eye's do not deceive you. Very shortly after the Jerk came out, some melanin-deficient dudes at UCLA proceeded to jack the steez. Another one bites the dust.
If you like what you hear, you can transplant some of the Beef Jerky on you iPizzy, click here for the Jerkin mixtape by JHawk.

Disclaimer: THIS IS NOT A CO-SIGN. I REPEAT THIS IS NOT A CO-SIGN!!!

L'Homage to Jazzy Sundays

Sundays are the best days for brunch, a cup of tea, and some smooth smooth smooth JAZZZZ!!!

And not that ol' throw back CD 101.9 FM, Jazz. (not that I am hating, I love me some Kenny Gezzy).
But, I am talkin' 'bout that new new type of smooth jazz. Currently everybody should be pondering on their week while listening to the serenading rhythms of the Jaspects.

These group of young handsome brothas' that were formally trained jazz students at the illustrious Morehouse College. While the men are fresh out of college, they have thrived for six years on the music scene, and have had their music appear in the 2005 major motion picture “Hustle & Flow,” on Carlos Santana’s “All That I Am,” and worked with with platinum recording artists David Banner, Wyclef Jean, Big Boi (“Kryptonite”), Mary J. Blige (“Just Fine”) and newcomers Janelle Monae, Algebra, PJ Morton, and Fonzworth Bentley.

So click here to listen to some smooth smooth jazz on a Sunday afternoon....

and if you'd like to hear and download their new single "Unifunk" listen to the video below, and click the link for more info.

Happy Sunday.
