...is fast approaching upon us. My New Years Eve plans will probably consist of some douche bag activity like this....
...but, I hope you movers and shakers out there will create merriment that will indeed be merry.

2009 holds great promise for a lot of people, and a lot of resolutions to be made and then broken. But one thing I know that will definitely be broken is glass.

Currently there is a exhibit called "Broken Glass: Photographs of the South Bronx by Ray Mortenson” that is at the Museum of the City of New York 1220 Fifth Avenue(at 103rd Street)New York, NY 10029. For only $9, and only $5 if you are a student, hahah!!!

It is a photographical documentary of the downslide that began in the Great Depression of the 1930s and accelerated with the construction of the Cross Bronx Expressway in the 1950s and the fiscal crisis of the 1970s. Remember you got to know your history, in order to know your future...

...and my future consists of me watching BScott destroy my dreams of marrying that handsome man that is Marcus Patrick.

Peep my 2009 Diva...

Jazz in the Key of Soul

Pete Kuzma is a jazz cat and a master keyboardist. He work is amazing, don't take my word for it, peep this live perfomance of him and Jill Scott in Paris...

He has produced for artists like Herbie Hancock, Jewel, Jill Scott, Raheem Devaughn, Dwele, and Bilal. And since I am such a soul-head I definitely dug his style from the beggining.

Peep this joint he did with Bilal called "High and Dry" by clicking the picture below...

Pete now resides in London, I am hoping to hear more from him in the new year, hopefully a collaboration with D'Angelo...ohh!!!

I'll probably be singing this as I beat everybody in bowling today!! HAHA! Suckkkaaass!!

Wow! I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!!

Well it is not butter, but regretably I have yet to ever go to a Wal-Mart in the years of my finite existance, but something about this next promotion has me thinking, "I'm not really missing that much."

So I had the pleasure of abusing my cousin's all coveted iPhone, all Christmas day and Evening, and I woke up this morning to find out that it is now avaliable at your nearest Wal-
Mart. Guess how much the Wal-Mart savings are gonna help you in this time of economic crisis!!!

Yes that is all...

According to the Reuters, "Wal-Mart will start selling the black 8GB iPhone on Sunday for $197, just $2 cheaper than you can get it at your local AT&T or Apple store. The 16GB model, in black or white, will be priced at $297, also $2 less than at AT&T or Apple. These prices come with a two-year AT&T contract."

Big Fookin' Woop!!, and I will still be commited to a fookin' contract. BLEHHH!!!

Winter Avalanches

So here I am pondering on this new found winter wonderland of weather, and my mind happened to wander opun the Australian electronic music group that is The Avalanches.

They have not released an album since November 2000. Kind of leaves me to wonder if they will ever return and bless us with their music again??

Like this is my favortie single they released...Here was a beautiful piece of musical art made entirely from samples of Kid Creole, Madonna, Jimmy Webb, Sergio Mendez, Mandrill, De La Soul and the Osmonds. Enjoy the video.

I love the concept behind their music, for example their last album Since I Left You was sampled from over 3,500 vinyl samples. So my christmas wish to Santa this year:

"Dear Santa, make the Avlanches release another album in 2009, I've been such a good girl"

You Are What You...

...LIVE???
Well according to artist, Todd Selby, such is the case. He is starting a new project that I am so interested in. It is called the My Home, My Self Project. He is shooting good looking people, in their natural good looking habitat.
I'm good looking, can I be in it too???? Nah, just kidding. The results are posted on his website, and they will be will be exhibited next spring at Colette, the Paris boutique.
My favorite part, is when he writes down some kind of random interview in markers, and has the participant fill it out, illustrations and all. I love it!!!
You may/may not be familiar with some of Todd's work...If not get familiar...

The Light

Outside looks like a giant 7 Eleven slurpie machine exploded, and all its unflavored contents spilled out into the NYC streets. On occassions like this I retreat to a place I like to call "Lightville."

It is a place once captured in film by the artist Pharoahe Monch, in his video "The Light" (one of my favorite songs by the way) and so I am going to journey there today...will you join me???

When I Say Writer's, You Say Block...

I usually like to ramble in my blogs. But words would not do justice to how fookin' fantabulous the Poetry Party was last night. If you were not there, man...you missed out. You might as well just say that you suck at life. Hahahah!!

But honestly, I think that my homie King Texas, the artist extraordinaire, did more justice to this event through her art than I could ever do.

So behold that which is Writer's Block, and make sure you peep Texas' page for more of her photography. I swear it is magic!

Okay, but I do gotta say this one thing, (you know I can't help myself), but Melo-X killed the 1's and 2's. And Theophilus London, put on a performance that would take you to another dimension. Peace Kings!

Harlem Girl by Way of Queens

Charles Hamilton, was someone I remember bumpin' into back in 2006 at a Writer's Block event...of course!!, and I must say i am proud to see how far he has gotten. I just remember seein' this cat rockin' mad pink clothes all the time. Characteristically, a pink button down, under another t-shirt.

It seems to me that his Hamiltonization Process, of dropping a new mixtape every 2 weeks, has definitely paid off. He is now signed to Interscope Records, and his latest joint The Pink Lavalamp was on Onsmash.com

This is his first single, "Brooklyn Girls," is now on rotation on MTV, and he was also featured on a cover of XXL Magazine titled "The 10 Freshmans". Sonic The HedgeHog never got so much press.

I mean personally I am a Queens girls, currently residing in Harlem, soon to be residing in Upstate NY. But I can't hate on them BK girls, they got something special.

Slick With The Word Play

Seriously, this video is mind-boggling. And if you have followed this blog, you know I have a thing for videos that seem to open new ways of perception.

Here at Writer's Block we are all about the words, and making them say more than the alphabet could offer. Peep this video by the Mountain Goats. Pure genius.

My favorite part is when he looks at the camera and says "Yeaahaha!!"

Oh! Green Pea.... thats why I love you. I came on to post about the shoe insident...and you beat me to it...AND I'm in a time zone that's 6 hours ahead of you! Well for those that didnt actually see the fiasco..... the shamble.... the dabacle! I present to you:

This is a farewell kiss, dog

Photo Credit: Saul Loeb/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images

So today was Bush's fourth and last time going to Iraq, not really sure why, but I guess he went to tie up loose ends. But instead the Iraqi reporters had something else in store by attempting to tie up his face with their shoelaces. Haha!

Apparently, an Iraqi journalist threw his shoe at President Bush, who ducked and narrowly missed being struck .

All I know is that if I were in Iraq, I would not be throwing no dainty shoe at Mister Bush. He would be getting a size 14 Timberland Construction Boot straight between the eyes.

But, it seems as if one shoe wasn't enough, because the journalist proceeded to throw a second shoe at President Bush, failing again. He was later wrestled to the ground by security and taken to some undisclosed place.

According to the New York Times, Bush tried to act all cool about the situation and stated that "All I can report is it is a size 10." But the surrounding Iraqi reporters co-signed that the journalist stated "This is a farewell kiss, dog," as he hurled the shoe.

Well, in other news this remix by Lo-Fi-Fnk is on repeat in my laptop, loves it ♥. Click the picture!!

An Artist As Creative As Her Name

Imogen Heap, weird name, yes I know. But her creative genius makes up for what she lacks in the aesthetics of her naming. While surfing through the time absorbing abyss that is twitter I stumbled upon her page. Intrigued by her 140 character summaries of her daily activities, I check out her YouTube page and was pleasantly surprised when I discovered this little gem.

I couldn't believe that one person could possibly create such as awesome sound all by herself. Wow. So, it turns out this chick is just as eccentric as her clothing. If you look below at her Vlog, she describes her creative process.

For instance, she hits light panels in her studio to record the sound of the dead flies bouncing up and down, and incorporates them into her tracks. Damn, she has lots of time on her hands.

It's WINTUK Baby!!

Just came back from Cirque Du Soleil: Wintuk, and it was frikkin' amazing. I mean like I really believe in magic now. So let me give you a little history, before I start buggin' out on this blog giving you mad details.

Cirque Du Soleil, means Circus of the Sun in French, which makes sense since this is a traveling entertainment group from Canada. Okay that is all the details I will give you, if you wanna find out more, you gotta do like Teyana Taylor says "Google me."

So I went to the show in Madison Square Garden, and I had seats so fookin' close I could smell the Canada on their clothes.

Anyway, yeah the show had acrobates, breakdancing dogs,

...talking lamposts, trampolines, and bunch of other hot 'ish. They also had a live orchestra playing in the adjacent walls, but they were mostly out of view.

They even had dude doin' BMX tricks on their bikes, guys on skateboards, and rollerblades.

All in all, the whole point of the show was about a little boy in a city where it didn't snow, so he went to this magic place to find snow, and did (obviously). And at the end, they made it snow in the theatre. It was really a great show, def check it out before it's gone.

Call Into Work as Gay

Ever woke up and didn't want to go to work, school, or even get up and brush your teeth. Well if you have ever suffered from the aforementioned situations, then today was your day. December 10, 208 was the official "Call in Gay" day. The event was coined with the term Day Without A Gay. According to the official website http://www.daywithoutagay.org/, the focus of this mass protest was "to take a historic stance against hatred by donating love to a variety of different causes."

The main motive was to volunteer time, and show that gay people are an equal part of society, and that they too are compassionate and loving. So the point was not to call your boss like "Hey, I'm not coming into work today...I'm gay" and then go home and sit on your bum, watching the Maury show. The point was to spend the time doing worthwhile volunteer work, as a statement against California's ban on same-sex marriage, along with other political developments considered anti-gay.

While scrolling through the many questions on the facts page I found two that were very demostrative of the creativeness that this community provides us with:

Will this get me on Oprah?
If it will get you to help out, then...yes...you'll be on Oprah, Honey

I can't take the day off work (or school) because I work for the FBI and people kinda need me to be there. Do you hate me?
Umm...NO! Come help before or after work, or help facilitate opportunities for friends through the web site now, or just cheer us on!

I Got You at Ballpoint

...and there ain't nothing you can do about it. Juan Francisco Casas Ruiz has managed to hold the art world hostage at "ballpoint." He has literally used his writing utensil as a weapon of mass destruction, destroying the mindsets of people. He single handily creates pictorial symphonies. I'm bout to make a little trip over to Staples to cop some highlighters and create something special.

On the other side of the world, SHOHEI, a one name Japanese dude is creating another kind of artistic massacre with a black ballpoint pen. In an interview with Vice magazine, the artist states "At first I was using pencils, but I didn’t like the way that the pencil lines shone silver. Then I realized that ballpoints are cheap, so I’ve been using them for a while now. "

His color scheme is based on ancient Japanese make-up that contained only three colors: red, white, and black. If his day job don't work out, I guess he could work at MAC. That's besides the point. Let's get back to the "ballpoint," this 'ish is fly.

Rhode Island's Hero

Just when I thought that the only thing that was heroic about Rhode Island was Family Guy, came along Theo. Yes, it is just Theo. Not to be confused with the older brother of the Huxtables.

The young Rhode Island protegee has a flow like I haven't heard since the water like flow of RIPMC, but real recognizes real, and this dude right here is really real.

This hero likes to relay random facts on his mixtape. For example, according to Theo nothing happens to you if you swim after you eat, starfish have no brains, and roaches can survive several days after you break off their head. I not to sure 'bout that. But one random fact I can confirm is he claims he "got the M-E-T-H-O-D man," and I co-sign 100%

Enjoy, and your welcome.
